Photovoltaic micro-installation on the ground – why is it worth it?
A ground-mounted photovoltaic micro-system is an excellent alternative to roof-mounted systems, especially when roof space is limited or suboptimal in terms of sun exposure, and there's plenty of free space on the plot. Here are some reasons why it's worth investing in a ground-mounted photovoltaic micro-system:
- Optimizing sun exposure : Ground-mounted micro-installations allow for precise positioning of photovoltaic panels at the correct angle and orientation relative to the sun, which increases their energy efficiency.
- Expandability : Thanks to their larger footprint, ground-mounted micro-installations are easier to expand in the future, allowing for increased system capacity as energy needs grow. An additional advantage is the construction system, which allows for the addition of fewer modules, e.g., two or four, to maximize space utilization even on small plots. Our Reca RS systems offer extensive configuration options.
- Easy, quick installation: Ground-mounted structures enable easier and faster installation compared to roof-mounted systems – modules do not need to be hoisted onto the roof and can be installed by lifting modules directly from the pallet – which is also safer and facilitates, for example, self-assembly.
- Easy maintenance and cleaning: Ground-mounted photovoltaic systems are easier to clean and maintain, resulting in lower costs and time for long-term maintenance.
- Improved module ventilation: Ground-mounted photovoltaic panels have improved ventilation, which helps keep the panels cooler and increases their energy efficiency and lifespan.
- Design Flexibility : Ground-based micro-installations offer greater design flexibility, allowing the system configuration to be tailored to individual needs and site conditions.
- Reduced Space Constraints : For buildings with limited roof space, ground-mounted systems offer an alternative, allowing for the installation of more solar panels.
- Improving the Aesthetics of the Environment : For some property owners, ground-mounted micro-installations may be a more aesthetic solution, integrating naturally with the landscape.
Ground-mounted photovoltaic construction systems
Prology's ground-mounted photovoltaic systems come in a variety of sizes and configurations, allowing for customization to meet customer needs. These structures are ideal for areas with large land areas, enabling efficient use of space and optimizing energy production. Thanks to their robust materials and construction, these systems are resistant to various weather conditions and ensure the long life of the photovoltaic installation.
Polish manufacturer – ground structure systems from Reca Solar
Reca Solar is a renowned Polish manufacturer of photovoltaic structures, successfully providing structural systems for both micro-installations and large-scale photovoltaic farms. The company's extensive experience has allowed it to develop products characterized by ease of installation, high durability, and resistance to various atmospheric and geological conditions, which is crucial for ensuring the long-term efficiency and safety of ground-based photovoltaic installations.
Single-support ground structure systems
Single-support ground-mounted systems are characterized by simple design and quick and easy installation. They are ideal for smaller photovoltaic installations and allow easy access to the surface beneath the panels.
Two-support PV construction systems
Two-support ground structure systems offer greater stability compared to single-support systems and often enable the installation of more modules on the same surface.
Durability of above-ground structures
The materials used in structures are crucial to their durability and strength. Prology offers Reca Solar ground-mount PV structures made of high-quality steel with an anti-corrosion Magnelis coating, known for their corrosion resistance and longevity.
How to install ground-mounted photovoltaic systems?
Installing ground-mounted photovoltaic systems requires careful planning and the use of appropriate installation techniques to ensure the system's stability and long-term performance. Below, we present a fairly comprehensive guide to the installation process:
- Installation of poles - driving them into the ground
The first step is to place the posts in the ground at the measured distances and depths. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations and the instructions for the specific system. The most common method for securing posts to the ground is pile driving – driving them in with a specialized machine. (so-called pile driver or piling machine) directly into the ground. This method ensures that the structure will be properly anchored to the ground and will provide a solid and wind-resistant frame for the PV modules.
- Assembly of the structure frame
Next, the remaining system components, such as rafters and purlins, are mounted on poles driven into the ground, in the order specified in the system's instructions (most often, these are systems where the rafters are installed first, followed by the purlins). The components are attached to each other using the included screws and nuts. It's important to maintain the appropriate spacing between the mounting components so that the distances match the dimensions of our modules. Universal systems are useful here, as they can be easily adjusted to the size of our modules.
- Module assembly
The modules are then mounted on the finished table, securing them to the purlins/rafters using mounting clamps. The modules are placed vertically or horizontally, depending on the chosen construction system.
- Routing and connecting cables
Finally, all that remains is to properly route the cables, install the inverter, connect the modules and all the cables, and test them. (should be performed by an experienced electrician).
